1988, Holyoke, Massachusetts, was a once thriving city coping
with recession. Making it worse was the loss of Mountain Park,
the city’s beloved amusement park. From these seemingly
grim circumstances, a resident named John Hickey decided it was
time to turn those circumstances around by saving the park’s
vintage merry-go-round and placing it in the heart of the downtown
area. Featuring dozens of color photographs, this is the inspiring
story of that unprecedented effort which united a community and
saved an important part of their history.

“Christmas in July”: Join us for a fun filled
afternoon with Santa who visits from 12:00 – 3:00 p.m. with
treats for all.
Sunday, July 27: Parents Day! Children’s
parents can ride for 1⁄2 price when accompanied by their
child who has purchased his or her own ticket.
July 1 – July 31: “Find Waldo in the Pioneer
Valley”. The Holyoke Merry-Go-Round is one of 25
local attractions and businesses participating in this special
contest sponsored by Odyssey Bookshop at 9 College Street in Village
Commons, So. Hadley. Passports will be available at the Merry-Go-Round
for children and families to use to participate in this “hide
and seek” fun adventure for prizes including Waldo stickers,
gift certificates and more. Grand prize drawing August 2nd at
